Profile
In 2009, I have been awarded the Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University. After the internship year, I joined the Department of Anatomy as a teaching assistant, and then I have been awarded a full-funded scholarship to complete my postgraduate studies. In 2014, I completed my MSc degree in Translational Neuroscience from the University of Sheffield. I was working to discover whether skin fibroblasts can be used as a model to study amyotrophic lateral sclerosis pathogenesis. This was followed by Doctor of Philosophy degree in Neuroscience from the University of Manchester. During my PhD programme, I encouraged my teaching experience when I was chosen to be a part-time demonstrator. Regarding the research, I was investigating the pathogenesis of the urinary bladder dysfunction in experimental diabetes. I presented my results in many conferences including the 53rd meeting of European Association for the Study of Diabetes, Lisbon, Portugal. In 2019, I was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Anatomy.
Nowadays, I have academic, administrational, and research duties. I teach anatomy and histology for both medical and other health specialties students. My previous administrational duties included being a member in blood, respiratory, renal and nervous system modules' committees. I was also a member in the health specialties curricula committee, and also in the student's support unit. However, now, I am the Head of Anatomy Department in the Faculty of Medicine. Regarding to the research, I am a collaborator in the pre-clinical research unit at King Fahad Medical Research Centre, and I am also a principal investigator and co-supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Research Interests
I am interested in studying the urinary bladder dysfunction in diabetes mellitus. During my PhD, my team and I , for first time ever, compared the whole bladder transcriptome and the bladder biomechanical properties in diabetes with the bladder with polyuria only. We understood that the bladder failed to compensate in the experimental diabetes due to hyperglycemia environment, and polyuria alone can not dramatically change the bladder's transcriptomic and biomechanical properties.
Nowadays, I am continuing elucidating the diabetic bladder response to some targets medications. My team and I hope to discover an effective treatment of diabetic bladder dysfunction.
I am also interested in neuroscience research, for instance, neurodegenerative diseases. I have been appointed as a histology expert collaborator with other research teams who are working on different in vitro and in vivo models.
